Top Yielding Winter Wheat Varieties for Chouteau County

MSU Agricultural Research Centers have one test plot for winter wheat in Chouteau County which is managed by MSU Northern Agricultural Research Center (NARC) north of Loma. A special thanks to Peggy Lamb (NARC agronomist) for establishing and maintaining the Chouteau County test plot. The Extension office would also like to thank the McKeever family for donating the use of their land for MSU research.

NARC (Loma area) top three yielding winter wheat varieties (10-year average yield) from 2014-2023 include Bobcat at 54.5 bushels per acre, Northern at 52.8 bushels per acre and Brawl CLP at 52.4 bushels per acre. Bobcat is also the top yielding solid stem sawfly-tolerant variety followed by Judee at 48.5 bushels per acre and Warhorse at 43.7 bushels per acre.

winter wheat varieties for multiple years ( three-year data) were Milestone at 53.5 bushels per acre, Keldin at 53.2 bushels per acre and Ramsay at 52.2 bushels per acre. The top yielding solid stem variety was WB4483 at 51.4 bushels per acre followed by Bobcat at 50.7 bushels per acre and Warhorse at 46.2 bushels per acre.
