The Big Sandy Barracudas visited Columbia Falls last weekend for the West Divisionals meet. They took 17 swimmers to the competition, and all 17 did well enough to attend the state championship in Sidney next week. The Divisionals meet consists of nine teams, which the Barracuda's faced all season long. The teams that competed were Big Sandy, Bitterroot, Chester, Choteau, Columbia Falls, Conrad, Cut Bank, Fort Benton, and Shelby. Henry Merrill beat two more pool records. This time in the 200 meters and once again in the 50-meter fly. Columbia Falls was also under a heat advisory all weekend, with temperatures in the high 90s. It was challenging to be in that kind of heat all day, let alone compete.
Travis Baumann was recognized at Divisionals for 15 years of coaching and announced he would step down from coaching. It was difficult news to hear from the swimmers, who appreciate him as there coach. Travis swam for 15 years as well. Travis said, "I am very proud of our team. 17 kids came to divisionals, and 17 are going to state! We scored 400 points, and we are in Class A. It was a great weekend." We took home 4th place.
