Hill County Electric (HCE) will be making semi-permanent repairs to our Verona Substation. The Verona Substation serves the Virgelle, Colony Bay, Big Sandy and Hopp-Illiad Substations. The outage will take place for the entire week of August 5th through the 9th. As you are aware, HCE had a 30-hour unplanned outage back in April. Luckily, that failure did not cause irreparable damage and HCE was able to make temporary repairs and reenergize the transformer.
To mitigate the risk of possible catastrophic failure, HCE needs to perform additional repairs that require the Verona Substation transformer to be deenergized for approximately 5 days starting on the morning of August 5th.
To avoid outages at the following substations: Virgelle, Colony Bay, Big Sandy and Hopp-Illiad, HCE will be utilizing generators at each substation. Unfortunately, these generators will not be large enough to serve every load currently being served. Therefore, only residential loads will be served while we perform the required repairs to the Verona substation.
Since HCE can only accommodate the residential load, starting on August 4th all irrigation loads will be de-energized. HCE is planning to transfer the power from being provided via our Verona substation to generators, starting on August 5th. During the transition, you will experience power interruptions as HCE transfers to the generators. HCE is planning to complete the necessary repairs by August 9th and start the transition back to the Verona Substation and re-energize irrigation loads on August 10th.
HCE asks that during this period you limit your electrical usage as much as possible and refrain from utilizing any large loads such as grain bin dryers. For additional questions, please call 1-877-394-7804. Thank you for your patience and understanding as HCE makes these necessary repairs.
