2024 Pesticide Waste Disposal Program Will Be in Central Region in September
The 2024 Montana Department of Agriculture Waste Pesticide Disposal Program will be in Havre on September 17 followed by Great Falls on September 18, Lewistown on September 19, and Columbus on September 20.
Participants must pre-register their unusable pesticides with the Montana Department of Agriculture before the disposal event. Acceptances for these events occur on a first-come, first-served basis and early registration is encouraged. The 2024 deadline to register is September 9th. Late registrations will not be considered. Find registration forms at: https://agr.mt.gov/Pesticide-Waste-Disposal-Program. Once pre-registered, you will be notified of the exact location and date of the collection. The actual drop-off takes less than 15 minutes.
Annual pesticide waste disposal events began in 1994. More than 719,000 pounds of pesticide waste have been
collected from more than 1,850 participants. Common pesticides that have been brought to collection events include DDT, pentachlorophenol, dinoseb, and strychnine.
Pesticides with a missing label or unknown pesticides will be accepted, however large volumes of an unknown pesticide may require analysis before acceptance. The program will only collect and dispose of unusable pesticides and their containers.
The cost for disposing pesticides is FREE for the first 200 pounds. For amounts that exceed 200 pounds, the cost is $1 per pound with a minimum charge of $5. Please come prepared to pay using a check made out to the Montana Department of Agriculture. Products are weighed on site. The disposal fee for pesticides containing dioxins, dioxin precursors, or any product that may require special packing at the site may incur higher fees. Please be specific about products being disposed on your registration and be prepared for products to be inspected at the site.
