When I stepped outside my car at the MSU Northern football parking lot, I was surprised to hear the players cheering loudly. Realizing they were looking forward to playing football this year was fun.
Three of the players are from Big Sandy Pioneers, but what's truly fascinating is that four of them are cousins! Braydon Cline, Wylee Snapp, Lane Demontiney, and Crawford Terry share a unique bond. Lane also happens to be a cousin to Joe Quinn Demontiney.
Each player has a unique role on the team: Braydon, the inside linebacker; Wylee, the defensive end; Lane, the wide receiver; Crawford, the outside linebacker; and Joe, another wide receiver. We've had the privilege of witnessing their growth and development over the years, and now they're more than ready for the next level of competition. Their skills are honed, their determination solid. They're a force to be reckoned with.
Jerome Souers, head coach for the MSU Northern Lights, said when I visited the football field, "I love all those guys. You love all those guys. I love this team. I really do. I'm excited about the character and the personality of this team. Very competitive. They are great learners and all great football players, hopefully sooner rather than later." I mentioned that I had read that he had a full team this year. He replied We ran really thin toward the end of the year the last couple of years, but this year, we've got better depth, and I really like the class that has come in. They've added. We have veterans who are helping the rookies and developing a really good family feel to it. We can do this right in the beginning. You know, get up on the right step, set a trajectory improvement every week. It's gonna be a good football team when it's all settled out."
