Hearts for Hep is a benefit for Casten Heppner. It will take place at the Jerry Martin Memorial Hall in Big Sandy, Montana, on Saturday, September 14, starting at 5 p.m. Dinner will be served, followed by live and silent Auctions. Casten and Katie and their children have lived here for years and are still Big Sandy people in our hearts.
Katie wrote on Facebook (she gave me permission to use it), "We traveled to Mayo, and we were able to see Casten's mass. The team assessed it to be an arachnoid Cyst in his upper medial fossa. They don't believe that is what is causing Casten's seizures. We then met with the neurosurgeon; he looked at the Cyst and determined he doesn't want to remove/ drain it due to location if it's not absolutely necessary. He continued going through Casten's scan and found an area near his brain stem, left posterior hippocampus, that showed significant swelling. doctors believe it to be Glioma (Brain Cancer)."
"We came home discouraged and beyond frustrated. Casten's had two MRIs since then and blood work. His most current scan shows he has the same swelling and that it hasn't grown, for which we are very grateful."
"He met with a neurologist in Great Falls on Friday, and it has been determined that Casten is resistant to the seizure medications. He's had numerous minor seizures a day since being on the medications, and on Wednesday, he had another grand mal. The goal is to get the seizures under control and give him some quality of life back, and that's our number one priority!!"
"They are working to schedule a biopsy of the brain stem area and Genetic testing. The team will then put together a treatment plan."
"We are giving this our all and trying to stay as positive as possible. Some days seem very daunting & challenging. Family time seems to be the best medicine."
