Senior News

Dear September, we sure hope you are cooler than your friends, August, and July. Here at the senior center, we keep the building nice and cool for the community to come in and get out of the heat. As the cooler months approach, we will continue to keep the temperature of the building

comfortable so you can come in and stay out of the cold. We will have warm drinks throughout the morning and early afternoon for your enjoyment. The community is welcome to come in and spend time socializing, putting puzzles together, playing card games or just stopping in to say hello. All we ask is that children are accompanied by an adult and are not left to run amuck.

As September approaches we are bringing bingo back starting Friday the 13th. On bingo night we offer dinner for adults $10.00 children under eight $5.00. on the 13th we will be serving French dip with sides and a drink. Dinner is from 5:30 to 6:30 and we will also offer takeout meals. Bingo will start around 6:45 and end around 9:00. Everyone is welcome so bring the husband, kids, grandkids and tell your friends and neighbors the more the who play the bigger the 50/50 pot will be.

We would also like to introduce our newest employees who have come to us through the Easter Seals back to work program. Jon Johnson comes in the afternoon and is currently buttoning up maintenance projects outside before the weather changes along with helping with cleanup as needed. On the 21st of August we are happy to have Rosella Lienhart, she will be assisting as a prep cook. We are incredibly happy to have these two Big Sandy residents join us here at the senior center. If you get a chance, we hope you will stop by and welcome the new staff.

With our new employees in place, we can make a few changes here at the center that we feel most of you will like. The changes include Changing Carols position to bake. What this means is homemade bread, dinner rolls, tortillas, cakes, caramel rolls, and desserts will be served on a regular basis. We will also be able to sale bread and dinner rolls to the public if you call in a week ahead of time. A loaf of bread will run $3.00, a dozen dinner rolls $5.00, caramel rolls $4.00 each or

$36.00 for a dozen. Starting the first Tuesday of September we will be bringing caramel rolls back. So do not forget $4.00 will get you a caramel roll and a cup of coffee between 9 and 10:30 on Tuesday mornings.

Finally for those adults in need of a winter coat, we have many sizes available that have been donated to us and are free to the community, so we invite you to stop in and grab a winter coat. Donations are always welcome if you choose.

That sums up, we welcome everyone, no matter their age, to join us for lunch or get an order to go, and do not forget about Dinner and Bingo on Friday the 13th.

Happy fall Y'all
