-H and FFA members from across Chouteau County had a very busy and successful 2024 Chouteau County Fair held August 14-18, 2024.

Award winners will be presented their award items during an Awards Program on Sunday, October 6 at 2:00 pm at the 4-H Building at the Chouteau County Fairgrounds. Everyone is invited.
The 2024 Chouteau County 4-H & FFA Livestock Sale was supported by 61 buyers for a total of $282,914.70 in proceeds.
26 market steers sold for a total of $138,548.70. The average price was $4.12 per pound. The Grand Champion steer owned by Brentlee Bomgardner sold to IND Hemp. The Reserve Champion belonging to Blake O’Hara sold to Fort Benton Realty, LLP.
The sale of 49 market swine totaled $98,237.90 with an average price per pound of $7.33. The Grand Champion swine owned by Kara Clark was sold to Montana Docks & Lifts. Triangle Communications purchased Brentlee Bomgardner’s Reserve Champion.
12 market lambs averaged $12.99 per pound for a total of $20,854.60. Jetta Hucke’s Grand Champion lamb sold to Lewistown Livestock Auction. The Reserve Champion lamb owned by Jacynta Bomgardner sold to Shonkin Creek Construction.
Market goats averaged $21.25 per pound for a total of $3,584.50. Jayton Ophus’s Grand Champion market meat goat sold to Sherri Allen. The Reserve Champion market meat goat owned by Ruthie Boyce sold to Lewistown Livestock Auction.
Two bred sale heifers were sold for a total of $8,300.00 with an average price of $4,150.00. The Grand Champion owned by Arrow Hucke was purchased by R & R Bronec Grain and Cattle. The Reserve Champion bred sale heifer owned by Ty Terry sold to S S Cattle Company.
Many buyers donated through the livestock resale process. Proceeds of $573.50 by the Pegar Ranch and Clete and Mary Ophus went toward building and equipment improvements through the resale of two lambs and one goat. $12,816.00 was raised from the sale and resale of a swine and was donated to the Heppner family. Donating businesses include Joyce Fuel & Feeds, Inc., Big Sandy Organics, Gills Point S, Realgy, Clete and Mary Ophus, Juedeman and Co., and Russ Allderdice.
The Chouteau County Extension Office would like to thank everyone who supports the 4-H and FFA youth, not just during the fair but throughout the whole year. To the sponsors, donors, businesses and buyers volunteer leaders, Fair Board members and staff, parents and family members and the many additional 4-H and FFA alumni supporters. You are a positive and an integral part of these 4-H and FFA youths’ educational experiences. Save the date of October 6 for the Awards Program where we will recognize the award recipients in person.
