I would like to introduce you to the Pioneer Producers of Big Sandy, MT. We are a local group committed to feeding the youth and seniors of our community. Our focus is to incorporate locally raised beef and fresh vegetables into the menus at our Big Sandy Schools Lunch Program, Senior Citizen Center, and other community events. With the support of our community and surrounding area businesses we were able to create this locally grown avenue.
A little background about the program, is that we have been working on it for the past year. Our program has been able to put 8 beef through the school and the senior center in the 23-24 school year, on a trial run. This program is ran entirely by donation, including the beef and processing costs.
Looking to the near future, we have a goal of getting 15 beef for the 24-25 school year. As a group, we have learned a lot and improved the program over the past year, and are ready to ask for your support. Recently, the freezer has been put in place at the fire hall to store the meat once it is processed, thanks to a very generous grant from Stockman Bank that allowed us to order and deliver the freezer. We are planning to get the electricity hooked up in October, and then we will be ready to store the fresh locally grown Montana beef. When you are in town swing by the fire hall and check out the freezer.
Also, we feel there is a strong importance of recognizing everyone who is willing to donate to our community, so we will be putting up permanent signs at the School, Senior Center, and on the freezer. The signs will be used to recognize the founding members of our program who helped us get our program up and running.
Currently we are working on collecting donations in the form of: Cattle (healthy beef will be picked up around early November for processing) , Grain (the elevator will write the check to the Big Sandy Education Foundation earmarked for Pioneer Producers), & Cash Donations of any size are greatly appreciated.
Feel free to reach out to one of our members for donation or program questions: Shane Chauvet, Glenn Terry, Bob Quinn, Katie Hanson, Lauren Darlington, or Haley Brown.
