Krystyl Kulbeck and What are we eating?

Krystyl Kulbeck, PA-C, has worked in family medicine at the Big Sandy Medical Center for 11 years. She said the presentation she gave was for informational purposes only and not to be considered professional advice. If you have any questions, she wants you to contact your primary medical provider.

The following information was taken from the PowerPoint slides she presented: Have you wondered about the underlying cause of why society, in general, continues to get sicker with more diseases and more medications? Have you asked your provider "why" you have diabetes, heart disease, mental health disease, cancer, bowel complaints? Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease has risen drastically.

Recent studies have pointed to ultra-processed foods (UPF) and seed oils as reasons why we aren't healthy. Eating more UPF is linked to a 50% high risk of dying from CVD. Also related to high blood pressure, strokes, anxiety and depression, Irritable bowel syndromes, cancer, and early death. We all know that these types of food help contribute to obesity.

Some studies have found that seed oils increase the risk of oxidation and inflammation, which can lead to heart disease. As well as chronic diseases like obesity, diabetes, cognitive decline, ulcerative colitis, and depression

Industrial Seed oils with their additives can stay in the brain for six years. (Soybean Oil (Vegetable Oil), Sunflower Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Cottonseed Oil, Corn Oil, Rice Bran Oil

Canola Oil, Peanut Oil, and Palm Oil)

Seed oils are not a good source of fuel. Your body is unable to use seed oils as fuel. They can damage your cells' energy-generative mitochondria, causing them to shut down unless they can get another fuel. That fuel is sugar, leading to insulin resistance and diabetes. Their half-life is around 680 days (nearly 2 years), so it would take six years to completely remove them from your body and replace them with healthier fats. You may see benefits sooner.

Unprocessed foods include fruit, vegetables, nuts, eggs, milk, and meat. Processed ingredients include oils, butter, vinegar, sugar, salt, and honey. Processed food includes ham, cheese, fresh bread, bacon, salted nuts, and tinned fruit in syrup. Ultra-processed foods include supermarket bread, breakfast cereal, biscuits, cakes, crisps, and chips.

Of course, the main point of the presentation was to encourage people to read food labels. The more additives, the less healthy. She presented a list of unhealthy additives that are not legal in Europe or Canada. The list was lengthy and thought-provoking. The impact of those additives includes brain fog, memory issues, inflammation, and bowel issues.

I would like to mention two products. Fruit loops sold in the United States are illegal in Canada, yet we give them to our children to eat. Another was Jiffy Peanut Butter, which I love and won't eat again. I am also going to be using a bread maker in the near future.
