Lady Pioneers suffer two losses on the road

The Lady Pioneers were on the road this past weekend and faced some tough opponents in CJI and DGSG. The Lady Pioneers took an early lead on CJI and were up 13 points at halftime, but a very gritty CJI team battled back, took the lead in the fourth quarter, and pulled away with a win, beating the Lady Pioneers by 8 points. The ladies then turned around and played a very fast-paced team at DGSG, who really put the pressure on the Lady Pioneers, beating them by 20 points.

The Lady Pioneers started off strong with a steal from Jai Baumann and a jumper from Eva Yeadon. Jenny Sant had a nice rebound and took to the basket. Eva scored on a board and bucket, and Jai had a couple of really nice passes to Jenny and Eva. Brianna Terry also scored on a jumper, and Jai and Jenny knocked down some free throws. Both teams applied a lot of full-court press and half-court pressure. The Lady Pioneers went up 4 points to end the 1st quarter with a score of 17-13.

The 2nd quarter was all Lady Pioneers, who got into a nice rhythm as a team and really had great ball movement, passes, and takes to the hoop. The Lady Pioneers scored 25 points in the 2nd quarter and held CJI to 16 points, putting them up with a nice lead by 13 points. Kenzie Kallenberger hit a nice 3-pointer, Jai had a great steal for a fast break layup, Eva had some takes and big 3-pointers, and Kenzie had some great passes to Jenny. The Lady Pioneers really showed who they were in the 2nd quarter offensively. The score going into halftime was 42-29.

The Lady Pioneers jumped out early in the second half and scored a quick 8 points, but then CJI knocked down a 3-pointer, scored on some free throws, made some cuts to the basket, and went on an 11-0 run to tie the game at 50. The Lady Pioneers went up 2 at the end of the quarter on a score from Jai. Going into the last quarter, the score favored the Lady Pioneers 52-50.

The last stanza was back and forth the first 5 minutes, with both teams trading post moves, jump shots, and free throws. But with 3 minutes left in the game, CJI pulled away by knocking down some crucial free throws and getting a nice rebound and put back. Time ran out on the Lady Pioneers, and CJI handed them a loss. The Lady Pioneers lost by 8 with a final score of 63-71.

Jai had a nice pass to Kenzie for a fastbreak layup, but the Lady Pioneers struggled to stop DGSG's great shooting and went down by 16 points at halftime with a score of 15-31.

DGSG started the 2nd half with a nice lob to the post and scored multiple times on take to the basket and dump passes to the post for a nice move. The Lady Pioneers had a nice block from Eva for a defensive stop, a great steal from Alex, and a steal from Jai. The Lady Pioneers also got some scores from a great pass from Jenny to Eva.
