The Pioneer boys basketball team ended their season this past weekend after going 1-2 at Districts. I know the boy's team may have struggled a bit this season, but I love the quote, "There is no such thing as failure. Either you win, or you learn". And I know these boys did a lot of learning because it showed every time they played on the court. They have had some ups and downs, but these boys left it on the court every time they played, and they should be proud of how much they learned and their effort to get better every game.
They first played Fort Benton and lost by 39 points, but they turned around and played Hays, had a great game, and won by 17 points. They then played Turner in another Loser Out game and lost by 35 points.
Their first game was against For Benton; Eyon Sherburn led them with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Jaesun Yirsa had 8 points, Jayton Ophus had 2 points and 6 rebounds, and Aidan Morsette had 3 steals. The team had 21 rebounds and 9 steals. Fort Benton showed a lot of patience on offense and had great ball movement. They also got a lot of rebounds as well. The final score was 27-66.
The next day, they played Hays, and the highlight of that game was the no-look pass from Tommy Sant to Eyon for an AND1! The Pioneers went on a 26-1 run on Hays during the 1st and 2nd quarters and put the Pioneers up by 20 points going into halftime with a score of 26-6. The Pioneers had some great moves to the basket, crashed the board on some big plays, and got some tremendous crucial steals, stopping Hays from gaining momentum. Eyon had 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals to lead the Pioneers. Tommy had 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. Aidan had 7 points, 3 assists, 7 steals, and 4 rebounds. Jaesun Yirsa had 6 points, 15 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Jayton chipped in 3 points and 6 rebounds. The Pioneers played great team ball and looked to be having fun on some big plays. They ended up beating Hays with a final score of 45-28.
The last game played for the Pioneers was against Turner, and unfortunately, the Pioneers had several fouls called on them to start the pace of the game. They did go on a 7-3 but could not stop Turner's great 3-point shooting. They went into halftime down 25 points and couldn't seem to get back into the swing of things after halftime. Aidan led the team with 15 points and 3 rebounds, regardless of having 4 fouls. Eyon had 11 points, 3 steals, and 9 rebounds. Tommy had 9 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. The Pioneers ended up losing the game with a final score of 37-72.
Keep moving forward, Pioneers! Your future looks bright! Keep working hard and practicing. Keep your heads high!
