THE STATE-LOCAL INFRASTRUCTURE PARTNERSHIP ACT (HB 355)

The funding for the City Hall project comes from HB 355, which designated funds for any communities in Montana to be used for infrastructure projects. Big Sandy was awarded a total of $71,672.00, with a 25% match, which was budgeted for in the FY 2025 budget. This phase of the project will cost $68,150.00, leaving funds to be drawn on for future improvements that are planned.

The project consists of installing ADA compliant restrooms, each with two stalls, upgrading the plumbing and electrical systems and building new walls and installing new doors.

In the back room, the old wall materials will be removed and replaced with metal and sheetrock and the structure will be reinforced for improved durability and aesthetics.

On the exterior, 48 inch high metal siding will be installed, the exterior doors will be replaced with doors that open outward to increase safety, as well as the door between the back room and the hallway. The Deputy’s office will be moved to the existing garage with its own exterior door. The remaining part of the old Deputy’s office will be used to expand the restrooms and create a storage room for the city clerk’s office.

A 26kw Generac natural gas generator will be installed. In case of a prolonged power outage, having this generator will provide a warming space for people to gather.

Future projects planned, which will be paid with the balance of the SLIPA grant, the budgeted amount the town has set aside and donations from the CHAT Group and Sunshine Snippers 4H Club. Those improvements will include updating to energy efficient lighting throughout the building and a sound and video system.
